The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in at least one positive thing: a much greater appreciation for schools.

Through a struggle, we saw:

– the Govt. adopting leap-frog initiatives like Vidyagama, community classes etc.
– the teachers fluttering between students, schools, remote-learning and innovative techniques.
– the parents trying hard to support the children from home.
– Rising public support that recognizes how essential schools are, in society.
– New education allies that have galvanized – from parents to social welfare organizations to support the children’s learning.We, at Vidhyadaanam, would like to seize this moment to transform education to better serve the children by building “powered-up” schools with effective partnerships and laser focusing on the instructional core – the heart of the teaching and learning process, harness education technology for teaching and learning leverage.

With your support, we successfully took the first step by providing Smart TVs to all the identified schools, early this year.
The children and teachers alike, use them constructively and have already become an aperture to the world.

This year:

– Due to the insufficiency of proper uniforms, ~1000 children from 32 schools,  were provided with a full set of age-appropriate uniforms that helped them maintain the school decorum throughout the week.
– Stationery kits in eco-friendly pouches provided to ~1000 kids. Additionally supported by extra eco-friendly pencils.
– Thanks to Jagrati Educational Trust for providing two interactive primary education kits that the kids thoroughly enjoy.
– Setup a donated computer at one of the houses, for the children to learn and experience, post school hours. A video in the below link (drive) shows the agility and passion of a kid who now, can type fluently, communicates through e-mails and also sets-up G/Zoom meetings to clarify doubts or learn something.
– It was a zesty thrill for the students when they realised the volunteers were here to make them play games.

Future projects for consideration:

Playground equipment – Currently, planning to set up outdoor play equipment at 2 or 3 schools as a pilot.
